My 12 year old son has an initial diagnosis of conversion with a subsequent diagnosis of ARFID. His symptoms began after a head to head concussion. He has had a thorough neurological work up and his team of doctors reassure us there is no stone unturned. He is currently in an inpatient psychiatric unit undergoing, to this point, unsuccessful treatment. We are searching for options outside “the box.” Is there help in your facility?

      Melissa:

Apologies for the delay – office was closed and we were at conference.

So sorry to hear of your son’s struggles.

There are always options and this is an area we are very comfortable in, and have seen nearly every possible symptom associated with concussion and PCS; including many related to food intake abnormalities (i.e. too much or too little), GI distress, and other vital function challenges.

Best to call us as soon as you are able to set up a free consult to discuss some options for you and your son. Please call 828.708.5274 to set up a time in the next few days.

Take care and we hope to speak with you shortly.

Hello, first all thanks for your kindheartedness looking out for others, got a good thing going. We have spoken before and I cannot recall what your email was.. I thought I should be fine, but am starting to experience things which I am trying to adapt with and not freak out about. (I have had previously outgrown a vertigo sypmtom a few years back.) So, lately, would have these incidents where I thought I would see a black bug in the corner of my eye, but when I look directly, there is nothing there, I’ve never had this, never would like to seem like a person to hallucinate. When I seem to get sleepy, there seem to be after images more frequently.

I was recently injurred in a car accident and suffered a concussion. I have problems with memory, cognition and processing information. If feels like a whirl wind in my head when i try to communicate with others. The words don’t come out and my speech is slurred. Ive recently been on meds for anxiety issues and sleeping. I have terrible headaches especially when i try to do things cognitively. My blank just goes blank…i cant remember simplest of things or task. I went from being an active teacher at the top of her game to just sitting at home trying to make sense of my world. I feel like a prisoner in my head…no one seems to understand my pain. I was hoping for a breakthrough recently from a Neuropsychologist…only to be told i failed her “diagnostic test” so she cant treat me. She referred me to a psychiatrist to receive counsel on living and adjusting to my concussion. I walked away feeling like a crazy woman…i basically have mental issues since i dont fall into her subcategories. I camw across your site..doing my research because i taught i need to take control. I never had these issues before until my car accident, i have a job that i need to go back to n at this point all my symptons are crippling my ability to function. I hope i can get some help here…I will see my primary care today and ask about being refer red to this facility.

Hello. APEX Brain Center sounds exactly what I need, but I live in Atlanta and do not have out of state benefits. I experienced a concussion with a loss of consciousness for about 30 sec resulting from a fall at age nine. My concussion was never treated. I now 43 and have experienced three separate debilitating migraines over the last three years that first appear to be a stroke. However, my MRI’s and CT scans all appear to be normal. My neurological functioning, especially with working memory, continue to slowly decline. I have also experienced a great deal of emotional trauma throughout my life starting at a very young age and was recently diagnosed with complex PTSD and major depression. I am a teacher and can no longer work due to my inability to mange the enormous amount of paperwork involved. So far, internists and specialists have not been able to determine a root cause to my symptoms but they solely base their diagnosis on MRIs and CT scans despite the symptoms I exhibit. I’ve had a great deal of trouble finding doctors on my health plan who practice functional medicine. I’m a single parent and now unemployed, paying out of pocket is not an option. Are there any Drs in the Atlanta area you can recommend? Thank you for your time.

I just want to know if Apex Brain Centers could help an adult with Fetal Alcohol Effect (not Syndrome) who functions normally except in terms of thinking consequentially.

Depending on the scope and severity of symptoms, brain training can help many with side effects and symptoms experienced as a result of FAE and FAS. We’ve seen quite a bit of this over the years and neuroplasticity based approaches can be quite effective. Please call us at 828.681.0350 if you’d like to set up time for a free consult to learn more. Just ask for Mike Ervin. Thank you.
