About Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)

Traumatic Brain Injury or TBI can cause a wide range of functional changes affecting thinking, sensation, language, or emotions. It can also cause the total or partial functional loss of a body part.

The effects of TBI can be mild, moderate, or severe, depending on the extent of the damage to the brain. TBI can result in an acquired brain injury (ABI), which is an injury that occurs after birth and is not due to a genetic or congenital anomaly.

TBI can also result in a traumatic anoxic brain injury (TABI), which is caused by the interruption of oxygen flow to the brain.

No brain injuries are without their consequences and these injuries can cause mild, moderate, or severe brain and body dysfunction, depending on the severity of the damage.

TBIs can result in a wide range of cognitive, physical, and psychological challenges that require specialized treatment by a team of qualified medical professionals.

The road to recovery from a TBI is often long and difficult, but with the help of the type of functional neurology we practice at APEX Brain Centers, many people are able to return to their previous level of functioning.

Frequently Asked Questions about Brain Injury Treatment

A Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) is a serious medical condition that occurs when someone suffers a violent blow, bump or jolt to the head.

Falls, sports injuries, and motor vehicle accidents are three of the most frequent causes of TBI. TBI can also be caused by anoxic brain injury, which occurs when the brain is deprived of oxygen. Anoxic brain injury can be caused by drowning, near-drowning, carbon monoxide poisoning, and drug overdoses.

Unfortunately, it is. TBI is a leading cause of disability and death in the United States. Each year, approximately 1.7 million people suffer a TBI in the U.S., and 52,000 of those people die as a result of their injuries.

Our physicians practice functional neurology, which is based on the understanding that the nervous system controls all functions of the body. Therefore, by stimulating and/or inhibiting specific areas of the nervous system, functional neurologists can improve a variety of neurological conditions, including TBI-related issues.

If you or someone you love has experienced a TBI, it's important you seek medical advice from a qualified health care provider like APEX Brain Centers. The easiest first step is to schedule a free consultation with one of our board-certified physicians who will evaluate your condition, answer your questions, and provide care recommendations.
